I landed a new job with these baby steps
Finding a new job is hard work.
At times, it feels like a full-time job alongside the current one you already have.
When I started my last search, I put all my hobbies and projects on hold — job hunting became my new “side-hustle”.
I felt stuck in my previous role. Everyday I had to commute 4 hours in total to work 8 hours. I looked and looked for rented houses, but they were either out of budget or too small.
You know, the awkward shaped bedrooms that struggle to fit a double bed.
In the end, I had to choose between moving jobs and taking my eldest out of nursery. My child’s education came first — the job hunt began.
But, you don’t have to be in a hard place to want to move jobs. You may want a new adventure, a higher position, or something different.
I’m sharing the baby steps that helped me land a new job. From these steps I:
- Landed 3 interviews with huge retailers
- Got headhunted for a role I didn’t apply for
- Landed a job with better pay and growth opportunity
Let’s go through them.

This baby step feeds into every other action in this list. You could call this the first step, or the crawl before the walk, because its so important.
